I’m the kid whose life really was changed the day his parents handed him that first comic book.
And so a lifelong obsession with all forms of pop culture was born. As for that young fanboy, I grew up to be a forty-something white Canadian male who doesn’t like hockey (I know, what’s up with that?) and doesn’t drink beer or eat back bacon.
Oh, and people call me The Hook.
The Hook is a keen observer of the human condition, especially how it reacts to fame and fortune. Most celebrities have no idea of the magnitude of the gift they have been given and so they squander their talents. I’m here to point out that fact and hopefully, entertain a bit in the process.
You’ll notice a slight shift throughout; I’ve begun to focus on the many little annoyances we all have to deal with every day. These “Terrible Things” fascinate me and hopefully you’ll join me as we shine a light on some of mankind’s missteps.
And 1,001 Reasons Why Steve Sucks is my first foray into blogging minimalism. And I also write What The Bellman Saw for Bullet News Niagara.
Occasionally, I’ll sleep. But not often.
I also love sc-fi – Doctor Who is the most underrated series of them all – but I draw the line at vampires, much to my wife’s dismay. The wife loves vampires!
I’m a huge comic book fan and if I could have a super power, I’d settle for a Green Lantern power ring. Imagine being able to put your willpower into physical form?
Now that would be cool.

nice stuff….looking forward to reading more…
Really like reading your posts!
A power ring would be the coolest! I’ve always wanted one….that would work! Cheers!
Well done, Sirrah! I too am a Canadian male (approaching 60) that does not care for hockey. I do however drink beer, Guinness being my favourite. You have chosen a very interesting subject for your blog. I find your concise and somewhat hilarious comments very interesting. Keep ‘em coming, eh?
You don’t like vampires? I’m with your wife, especially if she likes the Twilight kind.
I stumbled upon your blog from the dashboard. Great stuff! Will be back
oh wow nice blog , my brother is a big comic fan!!! you can read a few of his comments on my blog…he loves batman…it would be nice if you reply to one of his comments on my blog about marvel or something, or invite him to view yours
(he is 12 btw )
Love the website, but does the “Hook” always talk in 3rd person? lol. Kidding love the blog buddy. Keep up the great work
Thanks, buddy! The Hook has the occasional mental lapse, much like “Jimmy” in that classic Seinfeld episode!
Just stumbled across your blog! Hilarious and I look forward to reading more!
Thanks! Appreciate the visit.
Go Sci-Fi! (Not SyFy thank you very much.) I agree about Doctor Who being completely awesome. Although I also have a soft spot for Captain Jack Harkness and Torchwood, Firefly, The X-Files and Futurama. And bacon.
I applaud all your choices. Great shows!
I love your enthusiastic attitude. Your batman logo is awesome. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a great night, day, and keep on writing, love it.
Thanks for the praise and the visit. Your blog rocks!
Hello, like your blog. What is back bacon? Is it slightly different that front bacon? Or is it Canadian bacon? This sounds like I’m being silly, but I really want to know.
Back bacon is thicker, has a strip of fat down one side, and is more expensive than your run-of-the-mill bacon. Does that answer your question?
Hey its so nice to meet u “The Hook”.
I am not really a comic book fan but I can understand your passion.
And about Felix…I am so sorry to hear that. It is hard to say goodbye to such devoted friends.
It certainly is. Thanks for the visit.
As far as I’m concerned, Doctor Who is the equivalent of the 3rd Testament. Have you seen the Alan Moore/Steve Moore/Dave Gibbons Doctor Who comic strips? The best of the best as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve seen some of them; I even had a few of the original Marvel Comics adaptations – how I iwish I still did – but it’s been some time since I gazed upon their wonder. Thanks, my new friend!
I’ve got every issue since Oct 1979 which now occupy a volume of a 3′x3′ cube.
You are my hero!
You have won a Versatile Blogger Award! Check it out here: http://scriptorwrites.wordpress.com/2011/12/23/the-versatile-blogger-award/
I have the best blogging allies anyone could ever ask for! Thank you!
a magnetising intro indeed!
hooked..!
Glad to hear it!
Haha — you and my brother sound like the same person! I grew up being carted around to comic book stores. He had boxes and boxes of them. He used to draw his own comic books when he was really young called Soda Popinski and the Bubble Gum kid. And he tried to get me into comic books too. The closest I ever came to that was a short-lived obsession with Archie comic digests
His wife is lucky he has geeky friends to take to all the geeky movies he loves to see. I hope for your wife’s sake, you have plenty of those too. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Carry on.
I’m afraid not, but my 13-year-old is my movie buddy, so my wife is safe!
Your Wife probably wouldn’t care for the movie I saw last night, but, as Vampire Movies go…well, actually it was the first I have seen since one of those 1920 Bram Stoker Reruns, of Count Dracula,..simply because, in this one…the “Priest” is the hero, and not the Vampire…YET… I’m pretty sure there will be a sequel,..where the Cowboy Vampire ( first human version created by the Queen of the Vampire Hive) pops back onto the scene…Pretty good movie, I’m also pretty sure that you’ve already seen it Hook, as you are way ahead of me on those things…If it doesn’t come in VIA Direct TV…It better be something awesome that screams: I-MAX ONLY like maybe the new “Wrath of the Titans” coming soon, or, I’ll just wait for it!!!
Thanks for the wicked share, my friend! And the kick-butt trailer!
Thank you so much for putting up my button, Hook, I really appreciate it. And on both of your blogs too! Wow! This really means a lot to me. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome – again!
Thanks for popping by my blog, Hook. I like you already.

You rock, Connie!
As do you!
Soooooooo, what happens when you get to #1??
I’ve already completed a #1!
I started out with 100 Terrible Things, then I realized that was too limiting! So now I’ve started #200 – #99!
Bizarre, right?
At least I’m an original…
Hmmm…. I guess that’s ONE way to count.
What can I say? I had to think of something…
Ha!
YES

Thanks for the support, my new friend!
Thats very inspiring , I like it .
Glad to hear it, my new friend!
I’ve been enjoying some of your views on things that seem to ail us these days – though mostly you’re preaching to the converted, which makes for a less than controversial relationship. That’s by the way just now: Jo Bryant sent me over to look for a post you wrote on The Book Of The Terrible about getting out there in the blogosphere. Will you direct me to the link, dear Hook?
I have nominated you for a blog award, feel free to pass it on or just bask in the glory and ignore the rules
