#112: Commercial Dead Zones….

Every city has them…. it is a shared curse.

For some, they consist of a row of buildings; some may have been restaurants, or stores at one time. And then again. And again. I’m referring of course, to those locations that just seem to house one failed business after another.

But people keep opening new businesses up in the same location anyway.

  • First it was “Joe’s”: EPIC FAIL.
  • Then McGee’s”: EPIC FAIL.
  • Next up, “Clancy’s”: EPIC FAIL.

Get the picture?

Everyone needs a dream, but you need to have a plan to bring that dream into reality. If a single location houses dozens of failed enterprises, perhaps the problem lies in the locale as well as the entrepreneurs.

A simple realization could mean the difference between this…

And this…

Failure is.. TERRIBLE!

  1. LOL!!! You sound like me when I refuse to return to a store that is “closed for lunch”. Would not be a problem if it was a short lunch by our standards. But most people take a three hour lunch every day.

They loose my business and I do not return.

  2. There’s a place where I live that’s exactly like that; it was a really good ice cream shop way back, then it closed, and since then it’s been one failed business after another, trying to recreate the original and failing. The latest round just put up their going-out-of-business sign last month. C’est la vie.

  3. In business it’s important to always do the research and be realistic.

  4. oh man so true there is this shop just near my house..i dont know the space jinxed or what,no matter what nothing works..even popular brands like Cafe coffee day and dominos couldnt keep it running there for more than a month….now it just lies shut.. have heard some feng shui or vastu is being done..

  5. Unfortunately you can be describing my entire hometown. The only places that stay in business are run by the relatives of the inept czars who run the township. anyone else doesn’t have a chance.

We have this one place where I currently live, in chicagoland that can’t seem to keep open. It is right in the middle.of a bustling area so I’m.confused. maybe an exorcism is in order? Can’t wait for your next post but I have to…

  6. You’re right. We all have a street of section of town where this happens. If the whole section isn’t cleaned up, one store is not enough to bring about a resurgent in business. Sad but true.
