A North Georgia chapter of the Ku Klux Klan has applied to “adopt” a stretch of highway in Union County, Georgia,
Seriously.
I know I’m not the only one losing his mind over this… Seriously, my frontal lobe is under siege at the moment. The KKK is the closest thing this world has to a super-villain team and they want to be recognized as a run-of-the mill community group?
Just look at this shot and tell me you don’t think of a superhero movie or comic:

This group just seems.. unreal to me. Every facet of their existence burns through me, right to the core.
If the Georgia Department of Transportation accepts the application (I’ll kill them all!) AND the KKK would be responsible for cleaning litter on a part of Georgia State Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains near the North Carolina border.
“All we want to do is adopt a highway,” said April Chambers, the chapter’s secretary. “We’re not doing it for publicity. We’re doing it to keep the mountains beautiful. People throwing trash out on the side of the road … that ain’t right.”
Incidentally, was this chick hard up for work or what?
At any rate, here’s another gem from Miss Chambers: “We’re not racists. We just want to be with white people. If that’s a crime, then I don’t know. It’s all right to be black and Latino and proud, but you can’t be white and proud. I don’t understand it.”
I share your confusion, you poor, deluded, woman…. But for completely different reasons, of course.

Hmm. maybe I’m lucky we don’t have this here. Of course, you can be whatever colour, creed etc you are and be proud, but darling April, it’s the way your group chose to be proud white people that was not acceptable to everyone else. If they want to adopt a highway and keep it clean, that’s fine, they’re just not allowed to wear their silly costumes, i mean, really, white pointy hats, are they trying to be wizards or something.
The fact that they still want to be anonymous by wearing hoods speaks volumes. As for the woman that wants to clean the highway, why does she need to adopt it to clean it!!??
Good point to raise…
Perhaps she didn’t read the history brochure when she accepted her position with the KKK.
Seriously, white supremacists are people I just don’t understand. Much like any other extremist, they are so far from normal that they don’t even recognize the stupidity of simple things such as wearing a white sheet out in public.
Ugh. Just thinking about these tools just pisses me off.
You too?
You can be white and proud, just don’t go around terrorizing those who aren’t! Don’t they get that part of it? Apparently not. They are not just a harmless “white pride” organization. They are a hate group who do harm to those who are not white and also some who are (Jews, Catholics, etc.). These are crazy people who apparently care more about keeping litter off Georgia’s highways than getting along with other human beings. Bizarre.
Definitely.
That is just sick….
Yes it is, Susie.
“I’m white and I’m proud….what’s wrong with that?” There’s a lot wrong with that, considering the circumstances. IF they are so proud, why are they cruising around with sheets over their heads?
Good point…
The state authorities are trying to find a way legally not to grant the approval for this group. No one wants to pay for a lawsuit about freedom of speech. There’s a move to rewrite the wording of the program in the legislature to stop it. Meanwhile, the state could plant, water and feed a couple of really big bushes in front of the signs?
And don’t give them any more attention – or media air time.
I hear you; will do.
I just felt the urge to throw up. I struggle so much to teach my kids to respect all races. Now that I’ve adopted bi-racial kids, I try so hard to teach them to honor both their black and white heritages. It’s hard enough with all the music that breeds disrespect, and now idiots like this want to highlight a darkness we should all be ashamed of? I’ve never been one to litter, but I’m afraid if I passed a sign that said “this stretch of highway was adopted by the KKK” I’d throw ever blasted piece of trash I had right out the window!!
And I wouldn’t blame you!
I’m human and I’m proud.
You know… all those people who talk about “pride” and being proud over something as silly as skin colour are just weird.
You think in this day and age, people didn’t have to have others march in a parade to remind themselves that they have white skin. Or black skin. Or a yellowish colored skin. Or red. Or brown.
I think I shall pass them all a mirror.
I wish you would…
lol Epicly accurate characterization, for the win. .
Thanks, Ben.

- Oh! Oh! Oh! I know them, Hook! They’re Wendy’s uncles! You know? Thelma, Velma and Zelma’s husbands!
>”We’re not racists.”
- “Yeah, we don’t want to destroy other races. We just want to wipe out everyone else who’s different as we race to the finish line.”
>“All we want to do is adopt a highway,” said April Chambers, the chapter’s secretary.
- Oh, Hook. What she means to say is, “Today, we adopt the highway. Tomorrow, y’all adopt ‘MY way’”.
Kate
Well said, Kate!
You couldn’t make this stuff up! Somehow associating KKK with the word “adopt” gives me a fit of the giggles. Weird.
The whole story is weird…
Amazing in today’s world we can still have such stupid ignorant people. I also agree with others, if you are so proud, why do you still hide behind your bed sheets?
My sentiments exactly…
