#125: The Return of “The Saccharine Menace”!

First The Book of Awesome was responsible for overloading my artificial joy receptors, now I’ve become aware of another “happy, happy, joy, joy” menace on the horizon….

The Care Bears are back.

Just let that sink in for a moment…

Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot introduces the likes of Tenderheart Bear, Share Bear, Cheer Bear and a whole batch of other “sugary-sweet menaces” to a whole new generation of children just waiting to hug a TV in approval.

I want kids to go out and hug a tree – though not literally – rather than embrace the TV and become little “Ambassadors of Awesome”. The world is a harsh, unfeeling place at times; why do we have to put up with crap like this on top of every other modern plague Fate has unleashed recently?

Hasn’t the world suffered enough at the manicured hands of the Kardashians?

Just shoot me now, I beg of you….

  1. Oohhh do I remember the Care Bear phase with my daughter. The horror ….The horror.

  2. Awwe, Hook, I loved the Care Bears growing up and so did my daughter. It didn’t harm anybody. LOL

  3. >I want kids to go out and hug a tree – though not literally – rather than embrace the TV and become little “Ambassadors of Awesome”.
    - Agree!

    >Just shoot me now, I beg of you….
    - Over their dead bodies!

From the looks of it, they aren’t going anywhere. And neither are you.

    >The Care Bears are back.
    - *whispering* I like them. Oh, please don’t shoot me, Hook!

    Kate

  4. My kids watched the Care Bears although if I remind them they might want to scratch their eyes out now…. :)

  5. Hmmm, I wonder if the Care Bears are related to the Charmin Bears? You have my imagination spinning now, Hook. ;) Evidently cute, cuddly bears make lots of money for their creators, which is why, I’m sure they will all be around for awhile. I only wish orples were so popular. :)

  6. Oh God am I glad I don’t have to suffer through either the Care Bears or the Kardashians.

  7. Hi, Dear Mr. Hook
Do you remember the Little Pony ‘n Friends? The Care Bears are not the worse, at all… lol
But, for our gladness, there are parodies for the Ponys, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3yGSJE53kU,
with a sequel right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhhs6bpJIR0&feature=endscreen&NR=1
The whole thing is not in English, but is about having horse power or pony power (is there anything like that?) in your car, and the slogan sounds like “damn ponys, damn ponys, la la la la la”…

Of course we are not about the political correctness here, but where it is? In the tsumani of products created after the characters? Of course not, so, enjoy it!

  8. You know, I can’t stand the Kardashians, even though two of them are pretty hot. But that photo begs the question, what kind of freaks get dressed up in lingerie with their sisters and pose for a picture?

  9. My kids watched the Care Bears for a brief time as toddlers. The songs would get stuck in my head horribly and I would walk around singing about Care-a-lot. It was awful. Glad they are a little older now (although, sadly, Spongebob’s “Best Day Ever” song has tons of stickability, too!)

  10. thank god I didn’t watch alot of tele as a kid, and that i have boys! No Care bears in this house, or little ponies… or other girly infected items. ~shudders~ although I’ll tel you a little secret… shhh, i used to make underwear for my barbie, I wouldn’t let her out with a bra and panties.. lol

  11. The only thing I watched on TV as a kid were superhero cartoons. I don’t think I missed much at all.

  12. Care Bears…useful for beating back that sugary Holly Hobby crowd from the door. (Now where are those vintage Lone Ranger / Lassie-Timmy’s-in-the-well / Rin Tin Tin / Rocky and Bullwinkle shows…something to watch – not products to buy….?)

  13. Nooooooooooooooo!!!

What is with the world today? Rather… what is wrong with the world today?

And I have a question. What family in thier right minds would dress up in their frilly knickers and get a family portrait and then to top it off? Publish it? From all the pictures I’ve seen of them I am beginning to wonder if they are not a litter…er… close. A little too close.

And then to top it all off.. it looks like they are dolls with the amount of photo shopping done to them.

I know! I am a negative Woman today!!!

  14. Are you using the Care Bears to post a super sexy picture of the Kardashians? Yes, you are.

  15. I couldn’t agree more! It sends cold shivers … to think kids are being fed this feel good floss. Where’re the baddies, where’s the danger, where’s the redemption?
