#133: Glory-Seeking Moms!

The latest cover of Time magazine, featuring American mother Jamie Lynne Grumet breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, Aram has titillated shocked, horrified, enraged and confused millions of people all over the world.

But I’m not confused. I know exactly what is going on here.

This broad just wants to be famous and her son’s love of milk has been the key to unlocking the door to all her dreams. Apparently there is an actual article to go along with this pic, but I don’t think anyone cares about that, to be honest.

How could they? This pic erases all reason and just dominates your consciousness.

Remember when June Cleaver was the ideal mom?

  1. Say what now?

I think I agree in this day and age it seems people will do such things to get some attention. I want a t-shirt or a bumper sticker (if I had a car that is) that says “down with attention whores”.

  2. LOL, what a Mother’s Day tribute! I feel sorry for the poor kid still drinking milk straight from the source. Although after 3 years on breast milk, he should be immune to every disease in the book, and then some. That kid is huge for three. I wonder what Mom eats? I could make a few more observations, as well, but I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead. I did want to mention, though, that I thought for sure you would be featuring ‘octomom’ given the title of your post. How on earth could you leave her out? LOL, You’re slipping, Hook.

  3. So many things to say here… ~as I shake my head in wonder~ I’m all for breastfeeding, but after that picture disgusts me. Regardless of the article there is something clearly wrong with it. It shows she wants the attention, not the other way round of espousing the benefits of long term breastfeeding. Which would have a completely different picture. I saw this on FB and some of the comments were shameful. Each side blaming the other – breast vs bottle – and as I’ve done both, bottle from necessity, I find it hard to undnerstand how people can be so cruel with their comments. As for it being natural, what animals feed their young past 12 months of age… very few. I can’t see the health benefits of mothers milk after about 12 months as they should be eating a whole range of ‘everyday’ food. It comes down to mothers wanting to satisfy themselves rather than the kid.

and yeah, where’s octomum, although she needs no more attention than she already has.

  4. This seriously disturbs me. The child seems rather huge to be 3yrs old, the other seems rather skinny to still be breastfeeding … yuck.

One time at the Bird Sanctuary in NIagara Falls, I heard a young girl ask her mother for something to eat. The mother said come over here child, they sat on a bench and the mother started to breastfeed her roughly 5 year old daughter!

Nothing wrong with breastfeeding, but at 5 years old? I think there is something wrong with the mother.

AND I’m sure when the boy in this photo gets much older, he will be traumatized by this photo on the front of this magazine. Im sure Mommy dearest didn’t think about that!

  5. I’m not just NOT Mom enough; I’m not a mom at all; so I cannot comment in favour of or otherwise.

I do know there are advantages to breast feeding, but haven’t read enough to find out what is the ‘Best by’ date.

I agree with Jennifer Avventura above when she says this:

    >AND I’m sure when the boy in this photo gets much older, he will be traumatized by this photo on the front of this magazine.
    - As if childhood today is not devoid enough of innocence and acceptance among peers. Poor boy.

  6. How do I erase this image out of my mind…who needs more therapy, the mom, kid, or us?

  7. i didn’t like it… :-( i love my mom and i don’t want any mom to use her child for fake fame…. :-(

  8. Everything old is new again…same old controversy reviving again. (Yawn)
Odd this is worth a cover for a news source…oh, sorry, got confused there. (yawn again)

  9. Yes, the cover pic is crazy. I once went to an interview for a job and the tiny woman interviewing me was in the process of telling me how much the organization supports and encourages family time — when her 7 year old son walked, in went around his mothers desk, lifted up her shirt and then her bra and latched himself. She didn’t lift him up and cradle him or any thing – she just kept talking to me. I was shocked. Slightly perplexed.

I too was wearing a bra and holstering set of breasts… was I next?

The interviewing woman then said to me, “We’d love for you to join us.”
Lucky for me, I was offered a higher wage at a alternate firm and didn’t have to watch elementary kids suck teat all day.

Breast feeding is natural –sure, but if it’s going to be an “all out buffet” at least post a sign somewhere (maybe at the entrance of the establishment), so people won’t be shocked when a tit comes out. lol!

    I wasn’t seeking out glory at all … I was just seeking a job. (-;

  10. The only thing I can say, is that I agree with Jennifer.

  11. Demi Moore pregnant springs to mind too.
