#187: New Year’s Resolutions!

Why does the dropping of a ginormous ball encourage us to change our lives?

If you’re overweight, ugly or an addict, shouldn’t you tackle those problems long before the beginning of a new year?

This is apparently the actual ball which will ...

The calendar may be new but you’re the same person through and through, so what makes you think God is going to be inspired to instill additional willpower in you at the onset of another twelve-month period?

I mean, I’ve always assumed people who are compelled to make resolutions are assuming The Big Guy is going to take a direct hand in their affairs. Otherwise, they’d have to do it themselves and if they didn’t do it before, what would change in the new year?

Personally, I think prayer is great but I don’t expect a deity to endow me with additional abilities beyond what I’ve already in possession of. If the Hook is going to get an upgrade, it’s not going to come from Up High.

To wrap this up – finally – if you’re unhappy with your life… change it!

Don’t wait for Dick Clark or that Seacrest douche to give you a signal, sack up and do it yourself.

And that’s all I have to say about that – for this year, anyway.

  1. People are weird – but you know that! They say they want to change, but, BUT subconsciously they don’t. Maybe they think that by saying it, it will happen, lol! Then… it must be a new year’s resolution… or it must start on a Monday (if it’s a diet). The thing to do, I think, is NOT to say anything – just do it! Then they will see the accolades pour in and that will encourage them even more. Also they shouldn’t aim too high and fail! Small steps… Nice topic, Mr Hook! :D

  2. A big shiny ball dropping in the middle of New York, still makes me go wide-eyed, it’s just to damn shiny! But I agree, well said. Happy New Year’s! :)

  3. Lol if your “ugly”.
    Great Post man .

  4. Bravo!!! I agree!!!
In my world it is just another day… but since the year changes, it is a good excuse to have some friends and family close and drink and enjoy the night away!!! Plus midnight is always a good excuse to kiss people!! Seems the only socially acceptable time though!!!

  5. I think some people just want a “start time” to begin their changes. That’s why they make New Year’s resolutions. They sort of need that extra push.

  6. Haha that was kinda mean, especially calling someone ugly! but all in all everyone must agree, if you want to change your life – change it! (happy new year!?)

  7. You know what? I didn’t make any New Years Resolutions. I just started the processes last year of what I want to manifest in 2012 – (this year). That way it wasn’t a resolution, it was a planned goal. I’ve accomplished many goals this way, but I’ve almost always failed on the ‘resolution commitments’ that I’d start on the 1st.

    Planning on WINNING in 2012,
    I’m Qui
    I started last year. lol!

  8. There needs to be an emoticon for “clapping.”

    👍👍👍👍👍
