Just think Black Friday, but dialed back a notch.
Only a notch.
Beyond that, the two days share many characteristics..
- Some people wait all year for each day to arrive. These are the same people who collect salt and pepper shakers and have more than two cats.
- Crowds of hysterical shoppers will wait for hours in the cold in the wee of the morn to be at the head of the line for the bus to Crazytown.
- Fans of both days have no qualms about physically assaulting their fellow shoppers in order to secure a deal for some useless piece of crap.
- Supporters of Black Friday and Boxing Day usually have a less than stellar relationship with their loved ones. Why else woud they be out in the cold and surrounded by strangers when they could be surrounded by the warmth of family?
As you can tell, I’m not a fan of Boxing Day. I love a good deal as much as the next guy, but I refuse to be that guy in line who should be home with his family and friends. I’m usually working in order to pay for the useless crap I already have!

I always wondered what Boxing Day was! I never go out on Black Friday, saving a buck just isn’t that important to me. If I’d been in that Wal-Mart when that woman pepper sprayed the crowd over an Xbox there would have been hell to pay. No bargain is worth the hassle.
I bet there would have been Hell to pay!
My ONCE loving sister begged me a couple of years back to go with her – I got on the Black Friday roller coaster and held on tight. I think I closed my eyes for most of the ride, the insanity and mayhem that I witnessed, just might have scarred me for life. The sad thing is most of that insanity and mayhem came from the hands of my sister. It is quite comical to think back on it. There was one store where my sister parked in the front handicapped spot (using my moms vehicle which had a handicapped plate) (FORGIVE ME !!) and she waited until they opened the doors and then she ran to the front and there was a lady with a small child AND a stroller (OMG-what was she thinking) and my sister grabbed her stroller and said let me help you with that and on she went right in… nearly first in line !! WRONG in so many ways, yet Brilliant as well. I still laugh to this day about that.
Anyway, my sister knows better than to even mention Black Friday to me in sheer fear that I might beat her to death
You have a cool relationship with your sister! Great holiday tale , too!
amen to that!
Thanks for the visit, my new friend.
There are people who collect salt and pepper shakers? Ye gods.
They’re out there – unfortunately.
I was crazy enough to battle the malls this boxing day. Headed over to The Pen, what a riot. So many teenagers, so many sales, too much insanity.
The Pen sure beats the hell out of the Square, doesn’t it?
It’s funny, we’ve conversed for a year over the ‘net and now you’re right in my backyard! Enjoy the holiday, Jennifer.
