#67: When They Close “Your Place”!

No matter where you live, they have one.

It could be a restaurant, bar, even a particular grocery or clothing store that carried your favorite brands, but it’s always been special to you.

It was the site of your first kiss, first date, even your first you-know-what (Though hopefully not at the grocery store!), and it’s always occupied an important place in your memory – and heart.

But time is the fire in which we burn, and as we shuffle off this mortal coil, the world is transformed by each new generation. The young establish their own territory and make their mark in history. It’s simply the way of things.

But let’s face it, it really sucks when “our” special places disappear, save for the halls of memory.

  1. This can apply to not only places but things.

  2. Having moved around a lot I don’t get this effect too much. However a good chunk of my childhood was on an Air Force Base that is now closed. It is sort of like having your whole town closed down.

  3. I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and the Robert E. Lee Hotel is a fixture down in MIssissippi in 1962. So strange to see this photo, probably not Mississippi but, strange nonetheless.

  4. This reminds me of that song “Come Dancing” by the Kinks
