Superman’s creators are bored and have decided to kill him.
Again.
This time around though, they’re taking out their entire universe! Don’t worry, the DCU will be resurrected and rebooted into a different yet recognizable form. And if all goes according to the company’s plan, your local comic book outlet will undergo some changes as well.
In addition to over 50 new #1 titles in September, DC will be unveiling same-day digital publishing which many believe will signal the death kneel of the comic book store as we know it.
Or will it?

According to some retailers, readers will still have to physically travel to a store to download their titles! The retailer will have a series of cards or codes the customer will have to pay for before swiping or downloading.

The coming months will hopefully bring some enlightenment, but until then, there is going to be a lot of fanboy head scratching going on.

I’m guessing this is something to placate the shop owners and will be easily circumvented by sufficiently savvy consumers.

I don’t think this will be as successful as they think. Is not comic books or graphic novels also about the collection? There is something that has to be said about reading something then flipping a page. The way the pages smell in your hand…. the way it feels when you can see you are almost done…
The other day I attempted to read a book on my mothers “Nook”… I couldn’t get into the book. My neighbour then handed the same book to me in book form, I growled at people to go away and let me read. I cannot see this being any different!
You’re right, books are meant to be held in your hands, not digitally transferred! Still, you can’t fight the future, I guess.
From what I can see here, the only one that’s a little strange is Superman… his costume looks like armour or something…
