Opportunists or Lovers In A Dangerous Time?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

But do any of those words contain the truth?

This picture, to me, screams “horny morons making out during the recent Vancouver riot“…

However, according to the father of the mystery male, Australian Scott Jones, the picture screams, “heroic boyfriend”.

“They were between the riot police and the rioters, and the riot police were actually charging forward, and Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground,” Brett Jones told CBC News. “[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, ‘It’s going to be OK,’ and the photographer just took the shot at that moment.”

What he fails to mention is the fact his son is a budding stand-up comic.

Personally, I’m not buying this “comforting boyfriend” story, the couple’s body language doesn’t support that theory at all. But it doesn’t matter what I think. People all over the world will look at this shot and form their own opinion.

That’s simply how the world works.

The couple, Australian Scott Jones and his Canadian girlfriend Alex Thomas, have carved themselves a place in Vancouver riot history.

But was this their plan all along?

  1. I saw this on the news and they said he was comforting her after she was hurt, but it looks like something different. An interesting juxtaposition with the rioters and the police.

  2. Yeah, I’m suspicious of that explanation as well. That looks less like a “it’ll be ok” kiss and more like, well, a horny couple making out during a riot. But who am I to say?

  3. I agree with your opinion on this matter.
Whatever the story is….I don’t think I would like my butt to be on display to the whole world the way this girl’s is! LOL

  4. I’ve read plenty articles on these two and seen the interviews. I’m convinced that he was just helping his girlfriend who had fallen to the ground. They were also trampled by police and hit with police shields. I probably would have fallen to if 100′s of police were charging me. i don’t believe they are opportunists. I can’t imagine thinking during this riot that he would say to his girlfriend: Ok, fall down and let’s kiss.

  5. Even if it was planned, I like it. It takes a lot of balls to do that and what a great story/pic this makes for.

  6. for it to be intentional and not spontaneous like the famous kiss photo at the end of WWII – the photographer would have to have been in on it as well – otherwise, the kissing couple had no guarantee of being photographed and framed so wonderfully in the image

  7. I saw this in the newspaper too. And no matter how much you want to comfort someone, who thinks of a kiss in the middle of a riot! My take – they were on drugs to do that
